The Clinical Survey of Perinatal Death


Abstract
A clinical survey was made on 235 cases of perinatal death at Ewha Womans University Hospital during a period of 8 years and 3 months, from Sept. 1964 to Dec. 1972, and the results were as follows:
1. Premature birth rate was 11.4% and death rate was 13.3%. Death rate of mature babies was 0.41
2. Babies of smaller weight and shorter gestational period had higher death rate
3. Death rate of premature babies was closely related with toxemia of pregnancy, placenta previa, abruptio placenta, and infection; it was highest from first to seventh day after delivery (61.3%)
4. Pathology at autopsy showed atelectasis 11.5%, pulmonary hemorrhage 9.7%, hyaline membrane disease 7.7%, and emphysema 1.8%
